New to Snapchat? Here’s How To Pick A Great Snapchat Username

At first, Snapchat can seem a little overwhelming.

For all of its positives, the team behind the global sexting app still haven’t created an interface which is newbie friendly. It definitely takes a couple of days to get to grips with the different screens and how to send and receive your first few snaps.

However, the most important thing to consider when creating a new Snapchat account is your username. Below are some helpful tips if you’re new to Snapchat and can’t quite decide on your ideal username.

Keep it neat

It is said that you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression, and this is especially true when it comes to online interactions.

First of all, you want to keep your username as uncluttered as possible. There’s nothing more irritating than trying to remember someone’s (or even your own) long-winded username.

Sure, you probably want to get your vital statistics in there, so maybe you’re thinking something like Vickyfloridacatlover1995.

No, that’s way too much information. Instead, condense it down to the unique aspects of your personality but without overdoing it. Something like catlovervick would be ideal.

Avoid special characters and numbers

Ever had that one friend who uses bizarre characters in their email address or username, and it takes you hours to find them in your address book?

To put it simply: don’t be that person. Unique characters won’t make your Snapchat username stand out, they’ll make people unable to find you and tag you in posts.

Numbers tend to be a big no-no too, because in most cases they tend to not be very memorable. It is a harsh truth that most of your friends won’t be able to remember the year of your birth, your house number, or your age when you set up your Snapchat username.

Make it relevant

If you’re a setting up a Snapchat for a business account, it’s obviously important to include your company name or brand in there somewhere. Likewise, if you’re a sole trader or you’re offering a service, you’ll want to find a way to associate that with your username too.

Let’s say you’re a professional artist by trade. You could simply go down the route of johncooperartist, or you could jazz it up with a little wordplay. Something like artisticooper would be memorable and would still associate you with your desired brand. Additionally, this allows your name to be much more searchable for potential clients or customers.

Use a little creativity

There’s a fine line between a stupid username and a creative one. If you’re going down the creative route and don’t want to keep it simple, you want to make sure that you don’t include more than one hard-to-remember word. For example, apocryphalguy would be a good one, because it’s the combination of a jazzy word and a simple one.

However, you would want to avoid something like apocryphallunareclipse. Any username which involves more than one creative word will just make it difficult to read.
